The American colonies were founded and filled by people willing to leave the lives they knew for better ones they didn’t. Upon that free-spirited, disputatious foundation a political culture was built with little patience for the distracting problems of other peoples, the ancient histories from which they emanate, and the enduring traumas to which their lives are beholden.
